BIO: Roy Gumpel has been a professional photographer for more than 40 years. On assignment, he’s shot projects in travel, environmental activism, CD covers, studio portraiture, still life, fashion, architecture, documentary, and film production stills. Roy and his camera were featured in a National Geographic Explorer program about Route 66 (The Mother Road), as well as in a TLC documentary about so-called sideshow “freaks,” titled SIDESHOW: Alive on the Inside, now a classic in the genre. His personal fine art practice is concerned with the elemental nature of objects, synecdochic portraiture and the urgent simplicity of the nature world. He lives in Woodstock, New York. He has shown work in multiple group and solo shows in the New York City area. Where Do I Begin (2021) was his first Los Angeles solo show.
